HOMECOMING FOR AWARDED
MENTAL HEALTH DRAMA
The multi-award-winning short film 'SICK', by MIKE
RYMER, is to have its first screening in the
Director's home town of Epsom. University for the Creative
Arts will host the event on Tuesday 6th October in conjunction
with Epsom Mental Health Week. The film has been screened
at more than 60 International Film Festivals across 23
countries, and has garnered 20 awards since its World
Premiere in 2007, but this is the first time it will be
available to local audiences.
Mike Rymer (Writer/Director) said:
"The local premiere of this work at UCA Epsom's brand
new auditorium represents a homecoming for me as a long-time
Epsom resident. I am thrilled that the film, which has
enjoyed so much success abroad, will now be available
to audiences here in the local area. Epsom Mental Health
Week provides the perfect forum."
The free screenings will take place at 5.45pm and 6.15pm,
and will feature an introduction by the filmmaker.

World Mental Health Day falls each year

Mental Health Week is now in its second year
and is the result of collaboration between: Love me, Love
My Mind; St. Barnabas Church Epsom; and Surrey and Borders
Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. It uses a packed week
of events in Dance, Film, Drama, Music, Talks and Comedy
to highlight community services, inspire debate about
mental health and erode the stigma surrounding mental
illness.
'SICK' is an independent drama and a co-production by
EgoProject Films and Patchwork Productions. It was produced
by Christine Hartland and directed by Mike Rymer from
a script that he developed while at the International
Film School Wales (a Skillset Screen Academy). The film
explores issues of mental health, namely anxiety and depression,
is endorsed by Samaritans and was largely funded by South
London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Funds.
It was financially assisted by Film London and The London
Borough of Wandsworth, and enabled by Screen South and
the RIFE Lottery funding programme. More information on
the website.
